Registred resident population.

The frequency is calculated by dividing the amount in a given group that has attained a specific level of education by the total population in the group. Example: Frequency Tertiary, age 25-64 = (25-64 attained tertiary education) / (Total 25-64 population). Percentages or frequencies are produced with a base of a minimum of 50 individuals per cell.

Foreign-born with two foreign-born parents: Foreign-born with native-born adoptive parents are excluded.

Descendants: Native-born with two foreign-born parents.

Rest of population: Total population excluding descendants and foreign-born with two foreign-born parents.

Country background: Foreign-born with two foreign-born parents = their own country of birth. Descendants = mother's country of birth, or father's country of birth if mother's is unknown. Rest of the population = Reporting country i.e. one or both parents' country of birth is the reporting country.

Level of education: Highest level of education attained by 1. January. Data is compiled according to ISCED 2011 classification (level 1-2, 3-4 and 5-8). ISCED: International Standard Classification of Education i.e. United Nations's systems og classification of education.

Denmark

Reference date: Population 31 December, completed education measured 1 October. Level of education: Highest level of education attained by the reference date. It is not possible to separate unknown from population without educational qualification.

Finland

Includes Åland.

Reference date: 31 December.

Level of education: Register of completed education and degrees is missing the majority of degrees taken abroad. Register also covers only population with upper secondary level qualification. Thus population without information about upper secondary level degree are classified to group lower secondary qualification (ISCED 0-2).

Norway

Reference date: 1 October.

Foreign-born with two foreign-born parents: Foreign-born with two foreign-born parents and four foreign-born grandparents. Adopted foreign-born are excluded.

Descendants: Native-born with two foreign-born parents and four foreign-born grandparents.

Highest level of education attained by reference date. From 2014, figures include an estimated level of education for missing values for education completed abroad. Sweden
